Jenny Steel NAPA
I started drawing and painting at an early age and was lucky enough to go on to Art School in Bristol. Here I became influenced by the work of Matisse and Bonnard then the Fauves and Abstract Expressionists. As a result, there is an emphasis on colour, mark-making and pattern in my work. I use these elements to show the busy streets of the city or the spaces and features of landscape, trees and light. More recently I have been fascinated by hedgerows and rather wild gardens, on the way, plants, stems, flowers and fruits intertwine to create mysterious perhaps even fantastical places. I work with acrylic paint on canvas as it provides me with the means to use glowing, bright colours, or misty ethereal effects for the atmospheres that I hope to create in my work.
